Reflection

Experience

I discovered just how captivating typography can be through this module. Designing my own font required a surprising amount of time, effort, and creative thinking, but the journey was incredibly rewarding. The process opened my eyes to the intricacies behind creating something that seems so simple yet is deeply complex. I found myself thoroughly enjoying the research phase, exploring diverse styles and inspirations. Each discovery enriched my understanding of typography and design, revealing the boundless creativity within this field. This experience not only taught me the technical aspects of typography but also deepened my appreciation for the joy and satisfaction that design can bring.

Observations

Throughout the typography course, I realized how much thought and precision go into creating visually compelling designs. Designing my own font highlighted the importance of consistency, where even the smallest adjustments to curves or spacing can completely change the balance and feel of the typeface. Working on layouts and text formatting taught me how to create harmony within a design by carefully considering alignment, hierarchy, and whitespace. Additionally, exploring type expression was an eye-opening exercise in how typography can evoke emotion and communicate meaning beyond just the words themselves. This process showed me how typography isn’t just about readability; it’s a powerful tool for storytelling and creating impactful visual narratives.

Findings

This typography course has shown me that design is a delicate balance between creativity and technical precision. Overall, I’ve realized that typography is not just about creating letters but crafting an experience that connects design with meaning. This newfound understanding has deepened my respect for the art of typography and inspired me to continue improving my skills in this field.
